Dr. Clare Shannon Sanborn
October 26, 1929 - November 6, 2013
SANBORN, Clare Shannon MD
October 26, 1929 – November 6, 2013
Loving and devoted husband to Rita and very proud father to his seven children: Douglas, Elizabeth (David Stinson), Mary, Catherine (Carl Schiller), David, Nicole (Dave Rayner) and Michael (Andrea). Cherished and fun-loving grandpa to Erika, Monica, Stephen, Hannah, Richard, Claire, Jeanne, Paul, Robert, Carl, Patricia, Maëlle and Esmé. He will be missed by his sister Kae (Bill Marcoux), his niece Ann (David Simpson), nephew Bill (Marina). Predeceased by his parents Dr. Clare and Dr. Kathleen Sanborn, and first wife Jeanne (nee McEachern). He was a special brother-in-law to Lucille and the rest of the Breault clan, and a dear lunch-time friend to Norma Lavoie.
Shannon was a much-loved Ear, Nose & Throat specialist in Windsor for over 40 years. “Doc” was a favourite of the nurses (one in particular) and had a special rapport with his patients, especially children. He was dedicated to his patients and often said that if practicing medicine wasn't his job, it would be his hobby. Shannon's first devotion was to his family and he lived life to the fullest. He loved sharing a meal, wine and laughter with friends and family. His curiosity led him down many paths – at times precarious, never boring. He was an adventurous traveler and avid swimmer, sailor, windsurfer and wood carver. The family cottage and his friends at Bear Lake were an important part of his life and will be a lasting source of cherished memories for his family.
The family would like to express its gratitude to Karen Parent and to the caring staff at the Village of Aspen Lake. The camaraderie of fellow residents brought him moments of joy and companionship.
The family will host a gathering at a later date to share memories and celebrate Shannon's full and well-lived life.
Donations in Shannon's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. You may leave your condolences online at www.greenlawncemetery.ca
