ELEANOR IRENE EMERSON (MORRIS)

Passed away quietly on February 9th, 2015 at the Westbury Long Term Care Facility in Toronto, Ontario at the age of 98. Beloved wife of Donald G. Emerson (1981), she will be sadly missed by her children Garfield Emerson (Melissa), Lynda Emerson (Quentin), Anne McLean (John) and Don Emerson (Cathy), her grandchildren Melissa, Taylor, Kristen, Julie, Larren, Mark, Johanna, Jonathan, Rebecca, Donald, and her 9 great-grandchildren. Born in 1916, Eleanor was raised on a farm in the Comber area as the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters. After home-schooling herself to complete Grade 13, she pursued a nursing degree and graduated in 1939 from Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor, before raising her family in Windsor then Ottawa, returning to Windsor in 1958 where she lived until recently. She spent many happy years with her bridge, golfing and curling friends at Beach Grove Golf and Curling Club. Riverside United Church was always a mainstay during her life in Windsor, Ontario. Later in life, she loved to travel and explore the world with her special friend, the late Ed Power. We all will miss her honest, straight forward advice, her quiet patience, her quick wit, and her wonderful fruit pies. When we think of her, we will be reminded of her love of gardening, her delight in music and her grace behind the wheel of that massive 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis. She had a brilliant mind and believed that one should have high expectations and live a full life, words she lived by and wanted for those she loved. She will be missed immensely and remembered fondly by each member of the family. The family would like to thank the staff at the Westbury Long Term Care and also her personal companion Femia Robles for their care in the past years. Visitation will occur at Victoria Greenlawn Funeral Home, 1525 Hwy # 3, Windsor, Ontario at 10 am on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. Interment at 3 pm at the McDowell Cemetery, Comber, Ontario.
